About Us

The Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee (MSPC) also known as the soybean checkoff, came into existence via P.A. 232 in 1976.

The National Checkoff, United Soybean Board, began in 1991.

The seven director board is appointed by the Michigan Governor. Each director is appointed for a three-year term and may serve two consecutive terms.

The MSPC is financed through Michigan soybeans sold. When a growers sells his soybeans to a First Purchaser the First Purchaser collects .005 cent per of the value of the soybeans sold. These collected dollars are then equally divided and half is sent to the United Soybean Board.

The Michigan portion is primarily divided as follows.

The mission of the MSPC is to invest grower checkoff funds in well-focused research, education, and market development activities in order to maximize the overall profitability of soybean growers and to promote soybean industry's role in a strong public image of agriculture.
