The Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee (MSPC), also known as the soybean checkoff, came into existence via P.A. 232 in 1976. The National Checkoff, United Soybean Board, began in 1991. The seven director board is appointed by the Michigan Governor. Each director is appointed for a three-year term and may serve two consecutive terms. The MSPC is financed through Michigan soybeans sold. When a growers sells his soybeans to a First Purchaser, the First Purchaser collects .005 cent per of the value of the soybeans sold. These collected dollars are then equally divided and half is sent to the United Soybean Board. The Michigan portion is primarily divided as follows:

Our Mission
The mission of the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee (MSPC) is to efficiently and effectively leverage checkoff resources to increase profit opportunities for Michigan soybean producers while enhancing a positive public image of the soybean industry.
It takes many people working together for the MSPC to operate at its optimum level. The MSPC Board of Directors gives the committee leadership and direction. The MSPC staff implements the programs and daily functions of the office.
The MSPC works together with many agricultural organizations. Direct organizations important to the soybean industry are the Michigan Soybean Association and the United Soybean Board.
